Children’s Essay and Art Competitions

Kids can show off their artistic and/or writing skills…All entries need to be submitted (email to
[email protected]) by Monday, Jan 21.
Essay entries can be sent digitally to the same email address ([email protected]).
Art entries should be submitted in physical form at the NrityArpana studio (6011 Tylersville
Road, Suite 2, Mason, OH 45040; in the same parking lot as Buffalo Wings and behind Tantalize
Salon); typically, the studio is open weekday evenings 6-8 pm and Sundays from 2-7 pm. Please
coordinate by sending an email to [email protected]
Topic: India and the United States
No participation fees.
Age groups: Group 1: 8 years or younger
Group 2: 9-12 years
Group 3: 13-16 years
The Competitions are being coordinated by the Cincinnati chapter of AID (Association for India’s

Essay Competition Rules:

  • Topic: India and United States
  • The essay can be written on any aspect of the topic
  • Essay length:
    o Group 1 & 2: 8 or younger and 9-12: Maximum 200 words
    o Group 3: 13-16: Maximum 500 words
  • Essays should be original. Researching background information is permitted; however,
    references to books or online sources should be listed with the essay. Plagiarism can
    result in disqualification.
  • The child’s name and age should be written on each page.
  • The essay can be sent to [email protected] in MS Word or PDF format by January 21 st ,
    2019.
  • Judging Criteria:
    o Content ————————————————— 15 points
    o Strength of Expression———————————15 points
    o Clarity of Writing——– ——————————–15 points
    o Appropriate Vocabulary——————————-15 points
    o Originality————————————————–40 points
    o TOTAL——————————————————-100 points
  • Trophies will be presented to the winners; all participants will receive certificates.
    Art Competition Rules:
  • Topic: India and United States
  • The art can focus on any aspect of the topic
  • Any medium is acceptable; we suggest 8” x 10” canvas or heavy-weight paper for
    Groups 1 & 2; 11” x 14” canvas or heavy-weight paper for Group 3; we also suggest
    choosing from one or more of the following: Acrylic paints, poster paints, water colors,
    oil paints, colored pencils, pastels, drawing pencils
  • Art should be original. Research for ideas and referral images is permitted; however,
    references should be used in an original manner within the art composition. Blatant
    copying can result in disqualification.
  • The child’s name and age should be mentioned on the bottom right of the artwork and
    on the back, the medium used.
  • The artwork should be submitted by Monday, January 21 st at the NrityArpana studio
    (6011 Tylersville Road, Suite 2, Mason, OH 45040; in the same parking lot as Buffalo
    Wings and behind Tantalize Salon); typically, the studio is open weekday evenings 6-8
    pm and Sundays from 2-7 pm. Please coordinate with [email protected] or

    o Originality and creativity———————————————40 points
    o Overall quality, technique, and command of medium——-30 points
    o Composition———————————————————— 15 points
    o Interpretation and Clarity of Topic———————————15 points

  • Trophies will be presented to the winners; all participants will receive certificates.
